The rapidly growing tourism industry is now one of the largest earners of foreign exchange and contributes 16% of New Zealand's export earnings, marginally behind the Dairy sector. It is likely to overtake that sector by March 2005. Tourism represents 9% of GDP. One in eleven jobs in New Zealand is in tourism.
