Minter Ellison Rudd Watts NewsMinter Ellison elects new Chairman The Chairman of Minter Ellison, Gillian Brown, announced today that Russell Miller AM has been elected to take over the position from her on 1 July 2009. Ms Brown, who has been Chair of the firm since 2006, will resume full-time practice as a specialist finance lawyer and as head of the firm's Finance team in Queensland. Mr Miller assumes oversight of one of Australia's blue chip corporate law firms whose clients are drawn from Top 100 companies and government. The firm's earnings last financial year place it in the top three law firms in the country. Its Chairman is appointed by partnership vote for a two-year term. A senior partner with more than 30 years' practice experience, Mr Miller works at a strategic level with major corporations and government as a corporate legal adviser and is regarded internationally as one of Australia's leading trade practices lawyers. He has served on a number of government boards and was appointed by the Federal Minister for Transport to review the relationship between the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (Miller Report, 2008). In 2005 Mr Miller was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for service to the legal profession in the fields of international and business law. Under Ms Brown's stewardship, Minter Ellison increased its strategic-level work for Top 100 clients, improved its financial discipline and achieved record growth. It won international plaudits for innovative legal work on headline deals and first-of a-kind transactions and was recognised as a leader in climate change, infrastructure projects, telecommunications and new media, and inbound investment in energy and resources – winning assignments with heavyweight domestic and multinational corporations and governments. Minter Ellison also cemented its leading position in corporate responsibility – becoming the first law firm globally to achieve a Gold ranking in the Corporate Responsibility Index and a top-three position in the Australia/NZ Index, placing it alongside the region's leading listed companies.
