Sir David Gascoigne joins The NZ 2011 Group

Sir David Gascoigne David was invited to join the Ministry of Economic Development Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2011 project team, comprised of seven external people to work with the Ministrty to leverage opportunities for RWC 2011.
 
The Committee, assembled by Hon Murray McCully (Minster of Foreign Affairs, Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister for the Rugby World Cup), is called The New Zealand 2011 Group. The group is tasked with helping to ensure that the non-tournament aspects surrounding the RWC in 2011 are maximised.  The focus is on tourism, entertainment, and generally raising New Zealand’s profile.
 
The Committee includes Bob Parker, John Hart, Bob Harvey, Michael Hill, Sharon Hunter, Wally Stone and Sir David Gascoigne.
 
Sir David, is a consulting lawyer and member of our firm’s board.  In 2005 he chaired the Rugby World Cup 2011 Bid Advisory Committee, which oversaw the successful bid for the hosting of the tournament in New Zealand.
 
He began his career with Watts and Patterson (now known as Minter Ellison Rudd Watts), where he became chairman of partners. He chairs the boards of both PSIS and Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand, and has previously been a director of firms including Transpower, Sky City Leisure, Norwich Union Holdings, State Insurance Limited, and New Zealand Post.
