Minter Ellison Rudd Watts News

Latest scorecard - international legal directories

The latest edition of three respected international legal directories were published recently, each ranking law firms by country and by practice area.

The three directories - the Asia Pacific Legal 500 (APL500),
International Financial Law Review (IFLR) and the Chambers Global Guide to the World's Leading Business Lawyers - provide good benchmarks for the legal services market and independent recognition of both leading individual lawyers and leading practice groups in the Asia Pacific region.

Minter Ellison Rudd Watts people and practices achieved some outstanding results:

  • practice areas such as Dispute Resolution, Restructuring & Insolvency and Tax all maintained their top tier position in the APL500
  • the firm's insolvency practice retained its top tier position in the IFLR, whilst the capital markets practice moved up a tier from the previous year
  • for the first time, our TMT practice was recognised and given a Tier 1 ranking by Chambers Global: 'This TMT practice covers a wide range of matters, from IT to media, procurement and M&A, and the lawyers are praised for the "outstanding quality of their work" and for their "knowledgeable and proactive approach"
  • also for the first time, we gained a place in the Employment rankings due to our "excellent work, especially with the government" and in Restructuring & Insolvency with our "admirable practice."'

Joining Chambers Global's list of 15 Minter Ellison Rudd Watts' 'leading individual lawyers' are: Graeme Crombie and John McCay (TMT), Jennifer Mills (Employment), Matthew Andrews (Public Law) and Andrew Matthews (Competition), with Chris O'Brien (Banking & Finance) and Christopher Young (IP) mentioned as 'up & coming'.

Cathy Quinn (Corporate/M&A), Sean Gollin and Mark Sandelin (Restructuring and Insolvency), Ross Pickmere (Real Estate and Construction) and David Patterson (Tax) were recognised by the ALB 500 as 'leading individuals'.

Mentioned for the first time amongst IFLR's 'leading lawyers' was Chris O'Brien (capital markets).

Some quotes from clients about the firm were also reported in the directories:

  • 'as part of the Minter Ellison Legal Group, the firm naturally enjoys a strong flow of trans-Tasman mandates in addition to its domestic workload'
  • 'provides assistance on an urgent basis when required, and is fully dedicated to tending to the needs of the client'
  • 'Minter Ellison Rudd Watts" client base includes prominent names'
  • 'covers a wide range of IP work and has a growing trade mark prosecutions practice'
  • 'Minter Ellison Rudd Watts" diverse practice covers the full spectrum of banking and finance work'
  • 'with strong connections to domestic and international banks, and a support network in the Minter Ellison Legal Group, this tax team is able to advise on a variety of issues'
  • 'in addition to fielding skilled legal staff, the employment group has an HR consultant on-hand, to round out its service'
  • 'the firm is particularly known for its corporate finance and complex tax-related transactions, though it has seen a marked increase in leveraged finance work'
  • 'the market consensus is that the firm is also making impressive strides into the competition and public law sectors'
  • 'on the panel of all the country's major banks, it also acts for a number of the larger domestic financial institutions'
  • 'draws on experts from numerous disciplines to provide as complete a service as possible, and clients wholeheartedly approve of this model".

Ultimately, our clients' satisfaction is the true measure of our success. We are delighted to have received such accolades from clients in these three respected legal directories.
