Julia advises clients on both contentious and non-contentious aspects of
construction and commercial
property matters, including construction contracts, acquisitions, divestments, leasing issues, due diligence, joint venture development arrangements and adjudication disputes under the Construction Contracts Act 2002. Julia has particular expertise in the area of weathertightness issues and represents the full spectrum of affected parties (including body corporates, developers, builders and contractors) in mediations, the High Court and the Weathertight Homes Tribunal.

Acting for numerous plaintiffs and defendants in relation to weathertightness issues in mediations, the High Court and Weathertight Homes Tribunal

Acting for a principal in a multi-million dollar, complex dispute relating to NZS:3910 and several substantive issues with a contractor and appearing in the District Court and High Court in relation to that dispute

Advising the receivers in respect of the ongoing construction of the Kawarau Falls Station Development, Queenstown, including in relation to access issues with the owner of the neighbouring land

Advising a UK based consortium in connection with leasing issues pertaining to its New Zealand commercial property portfolio and acting as junior counsel in arbitral proceedings for that consortium

Advising a prominent Dubai financial institution on the formation and development strategy of a vehicle established in partnership with a Saudi Arabian Developer to develop the largest privately-owned real estate project undertaken to date in Mecca, Saudi Arabia

Acting for Dubai Islamic Bank, the preeminent Islamic financial institution in Dubai, on its joint venture with Nakheel, the high-profile developer of the Palm and the World Islands, to form Tashyed LLC, a property development company with an intended committed capital of approximately NZ$1 billion

Acting for Standard Chartered Bank in securing its position as preferred financial institution with the Dubai Land Department for the holding of off-plan deposits pursuant to new escrow legislation and providing submissions to the Government of Dubai in relation to that legislation
