Julia Batchelor-Smith

Senior Associate - Construction

Julia is a Body Corporate and Unit Titles Act specialist and regularly advises clients on contentious and non-contentious aspects of all connected matters.  She also advises on construction issues, including construction contracts and adjudication disputes under the Construction Contracts Act. Julia has particular expertise in weathertightness issues and represents the full spectrum of affected parties (including bodies corporate, developers, builders and contractors) in arbitration, mediation, and the courts.

In September 2018, Julia was appointed to the New Zealand Law Society Culture Change Taskforce, responsible for conceptualising and overseeing strategies for driving transformative cultural change within the profession. Julia is the author of ‘Balancing Work and Life: a Practical Guide for Lawyers’ published by LexisNexis (2015) and has written extensively on strategies to achieve culture change, work/life balance, diversity and inclusion, and effective practice management. She regularly speaks on these issues, having addressed local and central Government, Universities, legal associations, private corporations, and industry bodies both within New Zealand and internationally.
