Special Counsel and Business Transformation Manager - Banking and Finance

Tila is a business transformation manager.  She has over 30 years’ private practice and in-house legal experience.  Her expertise spans several areas, including banking and financial services, complex commercial and corporate transactions, property finance, project finance, and general commercial litigation.  She now uses her wealth of experience to manage legal projects and champion the use of technology and data analytics to support clients.

Passionate about transforming how we deliver services to our clients, Tila works across the firm improving legal operations.  Her goal is to streamline processes to enable lawyers to truly focus on their clients’ needs.  She supports change that benefits people, acting as a bridge between end users and technology specialists.

Tila has always been an early adopter of technology.  She is responsible for our firm’s internal use of process automation.  She works collaboratively with our legal teams and clients to help pass on the benefits of the firm’s automated systems and implement innovative solutions. She simplifies tasks by determining current processes, identifying improvements, and implementing change, including developing guidance and process maps.

Before joining MinterEllisonRuddWatts, Tila was a senior legal counsel with Westpac New Zealand Limited and a corporate lawyer with Bank of New Zealand. She has also worked in private practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Tila obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) degree from Illinois Wesleyan University.

Through her varied legal roles, Tila has a real understanding of clients’ needs, particularly in document and compliance heavy environments like the legal and banking industries.  Solutions focused, Tila is known for her practical approach to problem solving.  She has a personable and collaborative working style.  With such an extensive and varied background, she brings operational empathy to everything she does.

A lawyer at the forefront of legal innovation, Tila is regularly asked to speak about legal technology projects and the implementation and change process.  She is an active member of the Centre for Legal Innovation (College of Law Australia) and presents at New Zealand’s premier legal technology event LawFest, as well as Legalwise Seminars focused on Business Skills for Lawyers and Legal Operations.
