She has experience working on a broad range of employment-related matters, including personal grievances, health and safety, industrial relations, restructures, and employment status disputes.
She takes great pride in producing high quality work. She distils complex issues into simple, plain English, that is digestible to the audience.
Bonnie enjoys guiding clients through legal processes that are unfamiliar to them and assisting them to achieve positive outcomes. She frequently works with offshore HR professionals and assists them to translate their HR experience into the New Zealand context.
Bonnie has an appreciation for the client experience. Bonnie has gained in-house experience through several secondments to HR and legal teams at large businesses. This informs how she works with clients.
Bonnie provides strategic advice to businesses on all aspects of the Protected Disclosures (Protection of Whistleblowers) Act 2020. She regularly assists businesses with internal speak up procedures and provides strategic advice on responding to protected disclosures.
Bonnie regularly represents clients in the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court. This includes acting on personal grievance claims and urgent interim injunction proceedings.
An expert in privacy law, Bonnie assists clients to respond to complex and large-scale Privacy Act requests. She advises clients through investigations conducted by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Bonnie regularly represents clients in mediations, assisting with negotiations for resolution. She has acted for clients in private mediations, as well as mediations at the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment and Human Rights Commission.
Prior to specialising in employment at MinterEllisonRuddWatts, Bonnie worked at a community law centre. Bonnie continues to do work in this space, now a member of MinterEllisonRuddWatts’ Community Investment Committee. She leads the firm’s secondment to the Waitematā Community Law Centre, a key Community Investment client.
