Rebecca is an accomplished general commercial litigator specialising in commercial disputes, competition and contentious regulatory matters.

As a general commercial litigator, Rebecca acts for clients across a broad range of sectors. She has particular expertise in class actions, banking and financial services litigation, and contract and IT disputes. Having practised in both the New Zealand and UK legal markets, Rebecca has advised a diverse range of clients on complex and high stakes matters across multiple jurisdictions.

Rebecca regularly represents parties in commercial disputes and frequently assists clients navigating investigations and prosecutions by New Zealand regulators. She also regularly advises private clients on compliance with key legislation such as the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013, the Fair Trading Act 1986 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

Prior to returning to MinterEllisonRuddWatts, Rebecca worked in the Competition and Antitrust Litigation team at 'Magic Circle' law firm Freshfields in London. There she acted on several high-profile, multi-jurisdictional competition cases. Rebecca also previously worked at another leading New Zealand law firm, where she advised and represented various New Zealand regulators and the Crown in a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters.

Rebecca’s commercial and regulatory experience, as well as her experience as a criminal prosecutor, gives her a valuable perspective about approaching and navigating investigations and prosecutions.

Rebecca is known for working closely with clients to develop a full understanding of their needs and for delivering clear, strategic and commercially focused advice. Clients value her diligence and ability to distil complex issues into practical and commercially minded advice.

Acting for suppliers and customers in IT project disputes, including for example resolving a claim by a Government customer against an IT supplier and the supplier's related claims against a subcontractor.

Regularly acting for defendants in investigations and prosecutions brought by various New Zealand regulators. Including, a prosecution brought by the Ministry of Primary Industries, regarding charges under the Animal Products Act 1999 and a prosecution brought by WorkSafe under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

Regularly advises private clients on their obligations and compliance with key legislation such as the Financial Markets Conduct Act, the Fair Trading Act and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
