COVID-19 and Construction Disputes
All parties in the construction industry have been in overdrive to understand the impacts of COVID-19 on their businesses. The immediate impacts include delays and increased costs on existing projects. However, it is difficult to predict what the final impact of COVID-19 will be on the construction industry. We are yet to see the ongoing effects on future projects, and this will largely be dependent on economic recovery and business confidence. Given this uncertainty, there is potential for an increase in construction disputes.
The purpose of this paper is to provide the reader with a sound understanding of the current legal landscape, the impact of COVID-19 on the construction sector and how to avoid and/or resolve related disputes.
This paper was produced for the NZLS CLE Construction Disputes & COVID-19 In Short seminar held on 2 July 2020 and is reproduced with the kind permission of NZLS CLE Ltd.
