Seminar with the Legal Research Foundation: The benefits and pitfalls of technology in litigation

MinterEllisonRuddWatts hosted a seminar with the Legal Research Foundation on the benefits and pitfalls of technology in litigation. We welcomed two speakers: Hon. Justice Ian Gault of the Auckland High Court and Bronwyn McKinley, Barrister.

The speakers discussed the advantages and difficulties experienced with using Virtual Meeting Room technology in court proceedings. Ms McKinley shared her tips on remote and virtual presentation to the court. Justice Gault spoke to what techniques works best in a virtual setting, for example, the use of close, head and shoulder frames, as opposed to a wide frame of an entire board room.

The session concluded by emphasising that the use of technology in litigation will continue to increase and that courts and litigators must be prepared to adapt to these virtual settings.

JLL aged care seminar

We recently hosted Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) following the release of its much anticipated ‘Retirement Village Market Review 2022’. JLL’s Head of Research, Gavin Read, joined Partner Travis Tomlinson and Senior Associate Elizabeth Rowe to discuss current statistics, trends, and issues for the growing sector.

Mr Read shared a summary of the JLL 2022 White Paper. Our experts then presented on the growing pains and gains for the industry, including staffing, funding and increased regulation. The session concluded with a discussion on common issues arising in new and existing developments, and the best means of addressing these.
